Aurora Casket Company Opens New Manufacturing Facility

September 22, 2006  Bristol, TENNESSEE - Aurora Casket Company has opened a new state-of -the-art facility for the manufacture of hardwood caskets in Piney Flats, Tennessee.

Locate on 18.2 acres, the facility boasts 158,000 sq.ft. which includes 120,650 sq.ft. of manufacturing space, 10,350 sq.ft. of office space and 27,000 sq.ft. of warehouse, maintenance and boiler room.

The opening of the new facility caps off six years of renewed concentration in hardwood casket production for the 100+ year old company. Aurora began manufacturing hardwood caskets in the Bristol area in 2003, when the company acquired the Cortim Hardwood Parts Company. The new Piney Flats facility will replace the antiquated Bristol plant.

With the opening of the Piney Flats manufacturing facility, Aurora strengthens its corporate commitment to continue to produce caskets in the United States. Aurora’s two largest competitors have moved some manufacturing to Mexico.

The Piney Flats facility will employ more than 100 people encompassing manufacturing and administration team

Established in Aurora, Indiana in 1890, Aurora originally produced all wood caskets. The company transitioned to steel in the 1940’s and continues to manufacture stainless steel, copper and bronze caskets in its Indiana facilities.
