March 27, 2008 Morristown,
Tennessee - Berkline/Benchcraft
LLC announced that all upholstery manufacturing operations are being
consolidated into expanded facilities in Morristown.
“This consolidation will allow us to reduce our interplant
operating costs, maintain outstanding quality, and enhance the emphasis
on our motion and home theater product lines,” President and
CEO Bill Wittenberg said. “We are in the process of adding
more than 200 associates in Morristown and will be introducing several
new motion and complementary stationary products at the upcoming
High Point Market.”
The furniture company was founded in 1937 and was purchased by
MASCO during the early 1990’s. In 2001, three Berkline executives
approached the company with the intent to purchase Berkline. By
2002, the executives had purchased both Berkline and Benchcraft.
Throughout it’s history, Berkline has not hesitated to expand
its production facilities in order to meet demand – and in
turn, adjust when met with a market downturn.
This expansion will add 200 local jobs and have a capital investment
of $3.2 million.
